The Embassy of Tunisia in Bern, Switzerland initiated in 2017 the promotion of the country by featuring local event during the independence anniversary celebration. That year it organized a fashion show to promote Tunisian haute couture by designer Najeh Derbal dagdoug followed last year by a musical concert entitled “ Treasures” by a renowned Tunisian violinist Anis klibi, whose “works and sounds were inspired by history, Arabic and Tunisian traditional music.”
This year the embassy chose “to open a window on Tunisian cuisine.”
The Ambassador of Tunisia to Switzerland Mr. Mourad Bourehla said in his welcome address at the reception to mark 63rd anniversary of country’s independence won “on 20 March 1956 after 75 years of struggle for freedom and dignity”.
The cuisine made up of a variety of succulent traditional and modern dishes from Mediterranean and Arab was elegantly presented, and ended with appetizing and luscious desserts.
Earlier, a three-day festival of Tunisian cuisine was held at the Hotel Bellevue Palace with a Tunisian chef Mr. Mounir in the kitchen to give the dishes original Tunisian touches. Present at the festival was the President of Tunisian Federation of Touristic restaurant who is also the President of National Academy of Cuisine France-Tunisia chapter Mr. Mounir El Arem.
On display at the reception was a variety of local food products titled “produits du terror” produced in Tunisia under a cooperation programme between Switzerland and Tunisia. These products are being promoted in Switzerland and are expected in due course to enter Swiss market.
