The Universal Postal Union (UPU) will hold a joint award ceremony for the winner of the 46th International Letter-Writing Competition for Young People and the UPU’s 2016 Integrated Index for Postal Development (2IPD) global ranking on Monday, 9 October 2017.
The ceremony which will take place on World Post Day on Monday, 9 October 2017 will be held at International Bureau of the Universal Postal Union, Berne, Switzerland.
The World Post Day aims to raise awareness of the Post's role in the everyday lives of people and businesses, as well as its contribution to global social and economic development.
This year, the UPU International Bureau has decided to mark World Post Day in a novel way by holding a joint award ceremony honouring not only the winners of the 46th International Letter-Writing Competition, but also those countries whose performance was ranked highest in the UPU’s 2016 Integrated Index for Postal Development. The ceremony will celebrate the global top three – Switzerland, France and Japan – and the five regional champions: Poland, Singapore, Mauritius, Brazil and the United Arab Emirates.
Among the participants expected at the occasion are high-level representatives of the governments, national regulatory authorities and designated postal operators of these countries, which achieved the highest scores on each of the four 2IPD indicators. Others are High-level representatives of other UN agencies, the Swiss authorities and the diplomatic corps.
